Colne Valley Classic and Vintage Club
Club Night – March 19th
Transit – The Supervan
The Ford Transit has been around for over 60 years and it’s easy to forget what an impact it had when introduced in 1965.
Club member Stuart Black was an engineering manager at Ford for four marks of the Transit. Still in short trousers when the Mk1 was launched, but he has worked on many older versions since joining the volunteers at the Ford Heritage’ Collection.
Stuart will talk about where it all started with the Project Redcap in 1965 and how it spawned some of the craziest vehicles ever built by a major vehicle manufacturer – The Supervans 1-4.
Fitted with V8s, these vans thrilled crowds at racing circuits. Stuart will talk about Supervan 1’s history, born in 1971 with a GT40 engine and how it became a daily driver on the road (!) before he became involved with its restoration and will tell the story of Supervan’s return to the track in 2025.
Join us on Thursday March 19th at 8.00.
